Dear Highland Family and Friends,
After experiencing a devastating EF5 tornado on May 20th, our community was left with thousands of homes and businesses destroyed or seriously damaged, including 31 Highland families directly impacted with partial or total destruction of their property. Highland was in the path of the tornado, and by God’s grace, suffered only minor damage to our building and property. In the days after the storm, thanks to the generosity of so many friends like you, we were able to assist approximately 3000 families in Moore. And we did so in a way that strives to love people in a tangible way in the Name of Jesus, extending prayer and the Good News of the Gospel at every opportunity. With the help of so many amazing ministry partners, Highland was in a position to help to feed and host approximately 9000 volunteers during the recovery effort. Our church family has never hesitated to open the doors and we’ve done our best to be good hosts for the survivors and volunteers who’ve needed our help or the use of our facilities. As a result of generous contributions we were able to distribute more than $100,000 in disaster recovery funds to help our neighbors in need, and more than $50,000 in building materials and gift cards! The gifts of so many have truly made a difference in the lives of hurting families. And because of the generosity of our ministry partners, we have been able to remodel and refurbish facilities impacted by the tornado and the aftermath of disaster relief ministry. I’m confident that God has provided and done so much more than I have any idea. Thanks so much for your partnership in the Gospel and the Kingdom of God! May He receive all the glory!
The Highland family gave more than $350,000 through our General fund ministries and more than $40,000 directly to mission causes, locally and worldwide, including support for Highland members in Kenya, Africa. HBC continued to support local missions through our Hope Pregnancy Centers, Prison Ministries, Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children and Mission Norman—just to name a few. In addition, through the Cooperative Program missions offering we have helped to support more than 5000 International Mission Board career missionaries worldwide. Although we are not yet in a financial position to build, we praise God that more than $171,400.00 has been given for the new building fund. We still believe that God will enable us to expand and build in His time. And we’re grateful that He has given us our current facilities located on eighteen acres, totally debt free!
Highland helped significantly more families through our food pantry and benevolence ministry in 2013 than any time in HBC history. In fact, this year’s Christmas basket ministry—not only ministered to sixty families in Moore, but also to families via our partnership with Christ Community Church in S. OKC. We do all that so that we may “Let our light so shine so that when people see these works, it will glorify our Father in Heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
God is good, and “the Gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe!” (Rom. 1:16) Thank you for giving to the Lord through Highland! And may the Lord richly bless you as together, we experience His miraculous provision in the days ahead!
