Dear Highland Family,
Thank you for giving to the Lord through the Highland Baptist Church of Moore, OK! Here is a brief report of how your gifts are being used to impact the Kingdom and eternity and a challenge as we move forward together…
Missions – I am so proud and thankful that we are truly a missions minded and missions giving church! As our faith family gives at least a tithe (10%) of their income, your church is able to tithe for causes outside of our own church ministry. This past year $ 88,631.00 was given directly to mission causes! This consists of $20,002.00 to BTM (Bigger Than Me) mission projects, (including $11,467.00 for Kenya missions); $27,179.00 to our Medical Clinic; $2100.00 to Hope Pregnancy Center; $12,460.00 to Associational missions (our partnership with 80 local churches and ministries); $26,890.00 to state and International missions. To God be the glory!
HBC Food Pantry – During the past 12 months, 900+ families were assisted with approximately $35,000.00 worth of groceries (approximately a 6 to 1 dollar value through the Regional Food Bank) in the Name of Jesus through this Ministry; plus generous donations for our Christmas basket ministry to provide food and gifts for families and children in need. To God be the glory!
Salvations – During 2016, not including our international mission work, locally, we saw 21 new adult, youth and child believers baptized and discipled in Christ and many others who are being guided in their first steps with Jesus through mentoring and discipleship materials. To God be the glory! We pray that we are able to do even more to reach a lost and dying world for Christ in 2017!
Our Discipleship Process… In order for us to move forward together, we’re asking everyone to enthusiastically commit to our discipleship process. We believe that we can change the world when we are intentionally…
H – HERE for Corporate Worship together (Acts 2:42-47; Hebrews 10:25)
B – Being BIBLICALLY Discipled (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 2:42-47)
C – Connected in COMMUNITY (Acts 2:42-47)
M – Living life on MISSION (Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 2:42-47)
Discipleship Building – To this end, our new Discipleship Building is now officially, “in the dry.” Brick is going on the building as I write this letter. Here is a summary of where we’ve been and a challenge related to our next phase that will be brought before the church this month. Here is a report on where we’ve been and our outlook toward the future…
In June of 2015 we held a leadership meeting to discuss the problem of no space to start new discipleship groups, or even adequately accommodate the groups that we currently have in place. The result of that meeting was that we would explore the possibility of building a new discipleship building.
The staff and leadership team subsequently presented the church with a detailed proposal that included options. The church agreed to proceed with the understanding that we would periodically come back to the church with progress reports and seek approval for financing options. Our initial goal was to get the building project to the point of being “in the dry.” That was to be accomplished with designated funds on hand at the time that we began this project.
After many months of planning and much work, most of which was behind the scene, we are pleased to report that we have almost reached our initial goal, or phase. The building, as all can see, is now ready to begin the next phase. There is still a small amount of work to be finished up, but when it is, the exterior will be 100% complete. God has blessed. We are right on schedule, and we have not fully depleted the funds set aside for this phase of the project in spite of the fact that there were, as is always the case, unforeseen expenses involved.
We have now arrived at the point where we agreed to re-convene and decide how we will proceed. If you were with us in the beginning you may recall that we said we could either complete the project as funds are raised or borrow the funds from a church-friendly lending institution (Baptist Foundation) at a reasonable rate. On January 29th we will hold a family meeting to revisit these options and determine how we will move forward. Everyone’s presence and participation is vital.
We mentioned things that have transpired “behind the scene.” For those of us who have been intimately involved in this project and continually aware of all the major and minor details of moving from our meeting in 2015 to where we are today, we can now look back and realize that this has all been somewhat miraculous. What we have right now, although it is unusable in its current stage of completion, is amazing. What we have been able to accomplish with the funds that have been spent is likewise amazing. The potential, which we can now see with our eyes, is exciting. We can only conclude from all of this that God has blessed this project, and we are like-minded in the belief that He will continue to bless it. The only reason He would do that is because of the potential of reaching more people with the gospel and making disciples of Jesus. We have already begun to train new teachers looking forward to the time when we can start new discipleship groups in this new facility.
Thank you for your prayers. Thank you for your faithfulness in participating in and supporting the ministry of Highland in our community and the world. Thank you for standing united as a body in our resolve to move forward in faith and to grow. Thank you for your love for the lost and brokenhearted. Now is the time to double our resolve in all of these areas and to press forward.
Remember, we are an imperfect people reflecting Christ’s perfect love into a broken world!
To God alone be the glory!
