OUR THANKSGIVING HERITAGE

The-Pilgrims-Landing,-NovemEarly this morning (the day before Thanksgiving), I saw an MSNBC American reporter say to a British reporter on his network, “I’m thankful that your country sent Pilgrims here who were seeking religious freedom.” Then he laughed and added, “I know I will get a lot of hate mail and comments on Twitter for saying that.” That reminded me of our Thanksgiving Heritage. So I will quote the original document here: Landing at Jamestown in 1607 Pastor Robert Hunt erected a cross, took communion, and covenanted, “We do hereby Dedicate this Land, and ourselves, to reach the People within these shores with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to raise up Godly generations after us, and with these generations take the Kingdom of God to all the earth. May this Covenant of Dedication remain to all generations, as long as this earth remains, and may this Land, along with England, be Evangelist to the World.” And then in 1620 — blown off course, but not off mission — Mayflower Compact they wrote, “…for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith.”

So, there’s that. Personally, I am very thankful!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Pastor Dave
