Food Pantry Ministry

Highland has been providing a daily food pantry ministry to families in need for over 16 years. Highland is a certified partner with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and as such, we’re able to purchase food and other items for this ministry at significantly discounted rates.

Highland provides gospel resources along with food and personal hygiene items to individuals and families in crisis. There are no requirements or stipulations, the ministry is simply done “in Jesus’ Name.”

In addition to the regular daily ministry, there are special seasonal projects such as our annual Christmas basket ministry which has provided holiday food baskets and Christmas gifts for literally hundreds of children and families for the past 16 years. This is a ministry the whole church gets involved in and receives a great deal of joy from each year.

Highland also extends this ministry to include the homeless population of our community and regularly give socks, gloves, coats, and lunches to homeless people who are either living on the streets or in the shelters. As we meet these folks, we try to talk to them, listen to them, get to know them and pray with anyone who would like prayer. Sometimes our students and music ministry volunteers lead worship and invite anyone who wants to come and worship the Lord and sing praises. This is all completely voluntary–there are no “strings attached,” and everyone really seems to enjoy the interaction and worship together.

This ministry is provided by means of the donations of the members and friends of Highland. And each Sunday morning there is a special food pantry ministry offering bucket “down front” which our children love to give to during offering time! It is not unusual to see the children of the church give change amounting to $100 a month to help support this ministry!
