What an amazing summer this has been at Highland! God is doing some very exciting things in our church. Let me say first of all, that HBC is blessed with an incredible staff. Pastor Ken, Mandy and the worship team consistently bless and inspire us week in and week out. Pastor Scott and Kim have accomplished so very much in the leading and challenging of our student ministry. We are all so very proud and encouraged to see how God is moving and working in the lives of our students. Robert and Aimee are leading and strengthening our College and Career ministry and are about to embark on a week of inspiration and challenge at Glorieta, New Mexico. And Pastor Rick and Sonya have been here a relatively short time, but so much has already been happening in our children’s ministry. Many of our teachers and workers have hung in there and continued to serve and love children for many months and now we’re seeing an excellent team take shape. I’m so thankful to the Lord for what He has done through our camps and VBS this summer. There have been so many life-changing decisions. I don’t believe it is an exaggeration to say that Children’s Ministry may be the most important ministry in the life of a growing church. Here’s what I mean by that… Children’s Ministry could be the first place a child has an encounter with Jesus Christ. While research shows us that parents remain the most important faith influencers in their children’s life, children’s ministry plays an important part in coming alongside of families to reach their children for Jesus.
One of the findings in the current research reveals this reality: The trajectories of where our teens will end up in their faith are set during the childhood years. In other words, if we have an idea of what we want our teens to know or at least be exposed to when they graduate high school, we need to start thinking about that when they enter the nursery, not when they enter high school. Children’s ministries are helping set the foundations of faith that should be built on the gospel.
This is why I am so thankful that God has brought Brother Rick and Sonya Brunner to help lead our Children’s Ministry! Did you know that last Sunday morning we had 65 children and workers in our ministry to children during our 10:30 worship hour? And that’s in the middle of the summer months! We are so thankful that God is bringing so many families with children to our church. That is both exciting and humbling. We have a chance to impact these beautiful children with the love of Jesus Christ!
Think about it…When parents come to Highland, they are entrusting us with loving and caring for their most precious and valuable gifts–their children! What an awesome privilege and responsibility! As our church grows, our need for excellent and loving volunteers will continue to expand. I am asking for our entire church family to help out. As God continues to bless and grow our ministry to children and families we must enlarge our volunteers for Extended Session and for our AWANA ministry. Would you pray about how God might be calling you to help love on these precious souls? If you are already volunteering, thank you so much for choosing to make a difference in the lives of children! Our goal is that every child here at Highland would experience the love of Jesus through those they come in contact with.
I pray that as we partner with the parents of our community, many children will come to know Jesus as Lord and will grow in the their relationship with Him. And you—our volunteers are such an important part in that exciting process! Rick and Sonya, Dena and I look forward to serving alongside you in this growing and beautiful ministry to children and their families. Please feel free to contact me (Dave@Highlandmoore.com) or Brother Rick (Email Rick@Highlandmoore.com) should you have any questions regarding our Children’s ministry.
